so..when doing the first excercise, I found that if you try and put too big a number into a number box, it gets turned into some entirely different number than you entered (sometimes even negative). so that got rid of the possibility of having a number box keep track of the world population for a littel global warming patch. (i suppose i could have used some multiplier later in the sequence and used a decimal..but that doesnt really solve the problem).

for the 2nd excercise, I just allowed the color channels to be played with a bit. I used some switch objects so that you can, for example, take the stream from the red channel and have it display as the blue channel. I also added some formulas in patcher objects like in tutorial #2, which change the output levels of each color channel independently. I was thinking about having these also update in real time like the movie itself, but found that when I put a metro on them MAX got reallly bogged down. maybe thats why Doug was talking about using YUV color in his video project.
